Overview
Shipping management in Order Management system allows you to print postage labels for your current orders directly to the printer with customer delivery information. In case of multichannel order management, Linnworks will record the tracking numbers for the consignments and will submit the parcel tracking information to the channel once the order is fulfilled.
There are multiple carriers available for direct, interfacing or import/export integration. The general idea is that you can print shipping labels by click Print Label button directly from Linnworks.

Postal Services
You have a list of postal services defined in Linnworks. Each order is allocated to a specific service. In addition you need to tell Linnworks how to interface with carrier backend system to generate a shipping label. For example, your list of services may be as simple as
- Standard local
- Standard Europe
- Standard Rest of the world
you can then allocate Standard to UPS Ground, Standard Europe to FedEx Euro Express and Rest Of the World to some other carrier.
So when you assigned an order to Standard shipping method and print label for the order, Linnworks will talk to UPS via the automated integration module, obtain and print the shipping label, record the tracking number and create a consignment record on UPS account.
Allocating postal service to orders
There are number of ways an appropriate postal service can be allocated to an order in Linnworks.
- Shipping service is known when an order – you can use postal service tags to match the name of the service known on the selling channel, so that when an order is downloaded, Linnworks knows what service to assign to it. For example, if a customer check out on eBay and selects Standard Seller Rate as a delivery method, you can map standard_rate tag to Standard.
- Using Macro to allocate order to a shipping service – when an order is received, Linnworks can run a macro program on the order to change its postal service. A macro is a small piece of logical code which can evaluate different properties of an order such as weight, cost, destination etc and allocate an appropriate shipping methods.
- Shipping Quotes – you can use MetaPack service to allocate an order to a cheapest service available to you across all carriers. In this case you simply allocate all orders to MetaPack – Cheapest service and whenever you print a label Linnworks will create a consignment on MetaPack service for the cheapest or most efficient carrier.
Type of shipping labels
There are really 3 type of shipping labels
- Printed directly to a thermal printer. This can be generic label or a label generated by a carrier.
- Label generated as PDF.
- Shipping label embedded onto the invoice or a packing slip on the integrated label tear-off/peel-off section of the invoice (available only for some carrier integrations)
